What Your Coffee Says About Your Venue, and Why the Answer Is Usually Nothing
3 min read

A question for anyone running a hotel, a members’ club, a wellness space or a premium workspace.
If a guest asked where your coffee comes from and why you chose it, could your team answer?
For most venues, honestly, no. Coffee is the most ordered thing in almost every hospitality setting and the least thought about. The wine list gets a sommelier. The menu names the farm the carrots came from. The coffee gets whichever contract came with the machine. Guests notice. When people photograph the breakfast and read the story on the back of the hand soap, an anonymous coffee is a missing sentence in your brand, served forty times a day.
Here’s what the last nine articles have been building to. Telling people where your coffee comes from is the cheapest premium upgrade in hospitality, and Indonesian coffee is the most underused story on the shelf.
Think about what an Indonesian coffee programme gives a venue that a house blend never can.
“The wine list gets a sommelier. The menu names the farm the carrots came from. The coffee gets whichever contract came with the machine.”
A story nobody nearby is telling. Ethiopian and Colombian coffees are wonderful, and they’re everywhere. A named Gayo, Temanggung or Flores Bajawa lot, from the fourth largest producer in the world that almost no UK venue represents properly, is real difference for the price of a conversation.
A serve, not just a drink. The BRUUK Method, our version of the centuries old kopi tubruk ritual, is Stir, Wait, Feel. It needs no equipment, no extra barista and no training beyond a short briefing. It turns a drink into a two minute experience that guests describe to other people. We watched it happen for a full week at the London Coffee Festival. The ritual got more attention than the coffee, and the coffee was excellent.
Something that fits a wellness offer. A slow, unfiltered, deliberate serve sits naturally alongside spa menus, mindfulness programmes and quiet moments in a workspace, where an espresso machine feels wrong but a ritual feels designed.
Substance behind the story. Traceable smallholder sourcing, distinctive wet hulled processing, named estates and cooperatives, and arabica and fine robusta options that cover a full menu from filter to flat white. Every claim survives the follow up question, which in premium hospitality is the only kind of claim worth making.
We’re a small London based, Indonesian diaspora founded company, and we build coffee programmes end to end: the beans, the ritual, the staff briefing, the story cards, the guest experience. We’re opening a small number of UK pilot partnerships ahead of Caffè Culture this September.
If your venue’s coffee currently says nothing, we’d love to give it something to say.
